The article examines the goals, grounds, and procedural order of such an investigative action as inspection. The author emphasizes that the legislation to date in the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation does not pro-vide a definition of the concept of "investigative actions". In addition, the im-perfection of the legislative regulation of legal norms providing for the grounds, goals, and procedure for carrying out an investigative action - inspec-tion - is revealed. Particular attention is paid to one of its types - inspection of the crime scene. The paper analyzes various points of view of authors defining the con-cept of "investigative actions" and concludes on its most accurate and complete formulation. Based on the analysis of legislation and law enforcement practice, the author formulates a definition of the concept of "scene of the incident". The author notes that adjusting the concept and procedure for conducting an in-spection will avoid ambiguous understanding of the procedure for conducting it, and will also exclude the possibility of recognizing the protocol of such an investigative action as inadmissible evidence, and proposes changes to the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation that improve the proce-dure for conducting the investigative action in question.
