The article examines the current problem of post-penitentiary recidivist crime in the Russian Federation. The author analyzes the content of key concepts: «recidivism», «recidivist crime», «post-penitentiary recidivism», highlighting their criminal law and criminological aspects. Based on statistical data from the Main Information and Analytical Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, we examine current trends and the state of crime among individuals who previously served a prison sentence from 2018 to 2021, compared to 2025. Special attention is paid to the criminological characteristics of the personality of a post-penitentiary recidivist, including socio-demographic, criminal-legal and moral-psychological characteristics. The paper substantiates the relationship between recidivist crime and professional and organized crime. The results of the study allow us to draw conclusions about the increased public danger of the phenomenon under consideration and to identify areas for improving preventive measures. The material of the article can be used in the scientific and practical activities of law enforcement agencies, as well as in the educational process of law schools. The analysis of recent data (2025) reveals a positive trend of decreasing recidivism, which may be associated with the implementation of new post-penitentiary probation mechanisms in Russia.
