Introduction: The article analyses the cultural aspects that contributed to the establishment of the copyright system in France, with particular attention to the role of philosophical ideas of the Enlightenment and events of the Great French Revolution. The main subject of research is the interaction of cultural transformations with the development of theoretical foundations of copyright. The French philosophy of enlightenment and revolutionary processes have had a significant influence on the development of the copyright system not only in France, but also in other countries of the world, including Russia. Their study contributes to a deeper understanding of how social and political changes and philosophical ideas contribute to the formation of legal norms. An investigation of the historical context of the development of the copyright system in France shows how the philosophy of the Enlightenment and revolutionary processes influenced the development of copyright. For Russia, understanding these fundamentals can help in the comprehension and adaptation of national legislation to modern challenges and show the need to consider cultural and historical aspects when developing legal norms. Materials and Methods: The author analyzes in detail key works of philosophers of the Enlightenment, such as John Locke and Denis Diderot, who promoted the transition from the feudal-absolute system to new conceptions of natural rights, using approaches of political history and legal teachings: Biographical, historical-conceptual and doctrinal. The results of the study: have allowed a deeper understanding of cultural aspects and philosophical ideas that influenced the establishment and development of the copyright system in France, and to assess their impact on the development of modern approaches to intellectual property regulation in different countries. Findings and Conclusions: The author notes that the changes in French Enlightenment copyright reflected the socio-political transformations taking place in society and were influenced by the ideas of the Enlightenment about natural human rights, including the right to intellectual property. Thus, before the revolution, the copyright system in France was based on a system of privileges granted to authors by sovereigns. However, with the revolution, this system began to be severely criticized and was gradually replaced by new approaches to copyright. The main conclusions of the study emphasize that the philosophical ideas of the Enlightenment became the basis for the formation of a new paradigm of copyright, which covers the personal and property interests of authors.
