The article deals with the most important forensic element in the investigation of crimes of theft of clothing, bags or other hand Luggage that were with the victim - the identity of the offender. Knowledge of the person contributes to the knowledge of the system of acts of criminal behavior, namely: knowledge about the ways of committing crimes; places that the offender chooses; the most likely victims and subsequent ways to escape from the crime scene. The main typological types of pickpockets are revealed: casual-situational type; unstable type; steady type; professional type; marginal type. Attention is focused on the importance of interaction of investigators with the bodies of inquiry, both at the initial and subsequent stages of the investigation of pickpocketing, in view of the multiplicity and non-obviousness of these crimes, as well as the complexity of disclosure and bringing the perpetrators to criminal responsibility.
