The article deals with the peculiarities of professional activity of employees of the detective police of Eastern Siberia at the beginning of the XX century. The article reflects the key e problems of staffing operations and investigative activities in the administrative centers of the region. Biographical information from the career of one of the first heads of Irkutsk detective police of Irkutsk - Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov is given.
