This article explores the history and current issues of forensic crime prevention. Its purpose is to explain the development of concepts around forensic crime prevention and to formulate recommendations aimed at optimizing and improving the quality of investigators' crime prevention efforts. An in-depth investigation of any criminal case, which necessarily clarifies the circumstances that contributed to the commission of the crime, the development and submission of proposals for the adoption of preventive measures and the investigator's control over their implementation, ensures compliance with the requirements of the law on the obligation to establish the causes and conditions that contributed to the commission of the crime and to take measures to eliminate them. The importance of forensic prevention in the work of investigators and in the structure of forensic science as a science is noted. Specifically, the interconnections between forensic prevention and all areas of forensic science are identified. Thus, the subject of forensic prevention is revealed. The paper analyzes regulatory and scientific sources that establish legislative procedural requirements and scientific and practical recommendations for eliminating the causes and conditions that contribute to the commission of crimes. The methodological basis of the article was formed by scientific provisions formulated by both proceduralists and criminalists over a period spanning the end of the forties of the twentieth century to the present day. A distinction is made between the causes that contribute to the commission of crimes and the conditions that facilitate their commission. Definitions are provided. Three general groups of conditions that facilitate the commission of crimes are identified. Despite the long history of the formation and development of forensic crime prevention (even when presented as a specific forensic theory or doctrine), the authors conclude that scholars' attention to the importance of developing scientific and practical recommendations for forensic crime prevention has only recently been drawn. This indicates a new stage in the development of forensic crime prevention.
