   <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
    <p>The article discusses the main causes of fires in electric vehicles. Electric vehicles differ from classic vehicles with internal combustion engines in a number of design and technical characteristics, which significantly affects the mechanism of fire occurrence and development, as well as the consequences of a fire. This necessitates the use of new approaches in the study of electric vehicle fires during forensic fire and technical examinations. The article focuses on the mechanism of fire occurrence as a result of an emergency in the electric vehicle charging system and the thermal acceleration of the battery due to mechanical impact, operating conditions, and other factors. Recommendations are provided for identifying signs of battery overheating and emergency operation of an electric vehicle's charging system when checking the cause of a vehicle fire.</p>
